Lindsey Grayson Up Close
Q&A With Utah Author Lindsey Grayson
How long have you been writing?
I wrote my first story when I was about nine. It was about a puppet that went missing from a museum. From that point on, I was hooked. I spent the next ten years writing poetry, short stories and articles.
Is writing your full time career?
No. I actually have a day job that I love. There was about a year that I dedicated soley to writing, but I found myself missing the stimulus provided by interaction with others.
So you went back to work?
I did, and it was the right decision for me. I definitely do not have a redundant job.Every day there's something unexpected lurking around the corner.
That's interesting,do you plan to work until you retire?
(Laugh) I have five children, I plan to work until I die.
How long did it take you to write There's No Telling?
That book took about two years to complete. It was pretty much done in six months, but the fine tuning took alot of time. I wanted to word it in way that could be understood by all reading levels.
What made you write the book, and who do you think should read it?
Wow, it was written because I think it delivers an amazing message to anyone who is or has been in foster care. I tried very hard to write it from Layna's(main character)point of view. Since it starts when she is a child, the words are very simplistic, and as she grows, the vocabulry adjusts accordingly. It makes you feel like you are growing up with her,you form a bond with her. It's the sort of book that you finish reading and you think; If she can make it, so can I. It's a very motivational book. Because of the content, I would say the reader should be somewhat mature, twelve at least.
So, is the story true? The story is a fiction novel. I don't think I have ever written anything that wasn't littered with bits and pieces of the truth. Is it my auto biography-no. Do I know what I'm talking about-yes.
Is there anything else you want to say to your readers?
Yes. Read the book, take from it all that you can, and pass it on to someone else.
